When an employee leaves a customers’ organisation, the last thing they want is for their devices to be left unused and unsecured in an unmanaged location. Not only is data at risk, their investment in those devices is also going to waste.

Many devices no longer required by their original user are still serviceable and can deliver further value. When a device can support a new user within your customer’s business, 5i can facilitate its redeployment. If the device functions but is no longer required, 5i will securely prepare it for sale to an approved third party.

The start of both an internal or external redeployment is the same. Data that needs to be retained is copied from the device, encrypted and securely stored. RAM and ROM storage is then wiped multiple times so there is no chance of any data remaining. A certificate is produced to provide auditable confirmation of data destruction.

Any damage is then repaired and the device is packed and stored ready to be redeployed, with its record on the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) updated. When a new internal user is identified, it will enter 5i’s build and configure process, as if it were a new device.

If the device functions but is of no further use, it will be sold, either to a used IT equipment specialist or on the open market. Money generated through its sale can be returned into the service, off-setting its cost.
